Jess Stephens is a photographer working around themes of memory, process, and gender. The fixation with texture comes from years of building tiny Jenga dessert towers as a pastry chef in Michelin restaurants and hotels across the US. Now, she documents what lies beyond the food porn feed: the people, landscape, and possibility. She's contributed to The Los Angeles Times, Gastronomica, Noice, and Midnite Snack.
Image 1/2 was taken from the Venice Beach pier. I try to jog to it a few times a week to see the changing tides, seaweed, and barnacles all around. Going about my day to day, I can lose track of how alive the earth is, how much bigger it is than us. Thanks to my friend Jenny for taking the equivalent of several Pacific Ocean neti pots to create this shot.
