Mark Griffin Champion is a photographer living in Los Angeles, CA. Originally from Texas, Mark has been working in the New York and LA photography industries for 20+ years. In 2021 he was awarded the cover of the American Photography 37 book for his work covering the 2020 BLM protests.
Faces, emotion, movement, elemental forces, vivid and sometimes surreal colors.. These are all recurring themes in Mark's work.
LA is light to me. It's the always present blue sky and sunshine washing down on everything, every day, always. It's the artificial light of the streets and stripmalls. I think this is why, on occasion, I will add a bust of some unnatural color to an image. It feels at home mixing the two here. It's the street corners and the stripmalls and the apartment buildings and the empty lots and the slight dilapidation that we all pass by everyday without a second thought. It's all beautiful. And color, LA is light and color.
